Mind Over Matter: How a positive mindset attracts a positive outcome

A positive mindset is one of the most important factors when it comes to achieving not only your body composition goals but any goal in life for that matter. If you have a negative mindset, the law of attraction generally dictates you’re going to have a negative outcome.

Therefore it’s crucial for those of you wanting to improve themselves physically by either losing fat or building muscle that first and foremost you’re in check mentally which will lead to a much higher greater chance of success. When it comes to a change of lifestyle and deciding to commit to a new training and/or nutrition plan the most important thing is to be 100% mentally prepared and dedicated to it.

For example, after 10-15 years of abusing or mistreating your body, if you come into this game thinking it’s going to be easy and that you will magically achieve a high level of results, you’re setting yourself up for failure which will then likely lead to disappointment and eventually an abandonment of your new lifestyle.

However, if you’re mentally strong, ready to put in some hard-work and have a positive mindset, any setbacks won’t deter you, you’re more likely to stay committed in the face of adversity and therefore achieve your goals.

Here are my Top 3 Tips for a positive mindset:

1. Clarity

Have a clear vision of the outcome you want to achieve in your mind. If you always look at the big picture and what you want to achieve, it’s going to keep you motivated and on track to reaching it. Our 12 or 16 week transformation programs are a great way to get started on a body-recomposition journey as there is always a set goal or outcome from the beginning that you are working towards.

2. Preparation

Be prepared! Whether that means prepping your meals, preparing yourself around your work/social schedule or any events that you feel may derail you like a colleague's birthday where cake etc may be served that doesn’t suit your goals. For myself, if I am prepared, I have no excuses. If you know there are going to be events like this on that can lead you astray and compromise your mindset and outcome, have food prepared where you can take part socially but be just as satisfied.

3. Reflection

Yes it’s important to have an outcome in mind but it’s also just as important to be able to reflect on how far you have come.  You are only human, you have bad days, but if you can get straight back on track then you are already one step ahead of where you were. This may have happened in the past and you most likely would have given up, thrown in the towel and put it all in the ‘too hard basket’ but with reflection you can learn from your mistakes and leave the old you in the past where it belongs while working on your desired outcome.

It doesn’t have to be reflecting on how much weight you have lost, but you can also reflect on how much stronger, confident or more capable you are in the gym. It can be even smaller steps you can reflect on such as how you now regularly eat breakfast, don’t skip any meals or maybe you just consistently drink 2 litres of water per day whereas in the past you barely drank any. This is all progress and it’s many steps ahead of where you were before, a positive mindset will prevent any little slip-ups from ruining all your hard work.

Lastly, it’s important to understand that not everyone will have the same mindset or goals as you. The most important thing is to not let their negativity affect you and bring you down. Focus on why you're doing it and why you started in the first place. You are likely more dedicated and committed to any individuals who are trying to bring you down, they know it and wish it was them in your shoes right now. You can only focus on controlling your mindset and hope that once they see what you have achieved, that maybe you can have a positive impact on them rather than their negativity steering you off course.
